Experience, price and simplicity. A lot of Vets try to upsell and take advantage of a person’s love for animals. Highland Park has old school ethical standards and don’t pull that stuff. There’s a reason they’ve been there for so long!!

Been going to this vet for over 40 years even under previous doctors ownership. My pets have always been well taken care of, and Dr. Cleland knows is well, knows our pets, even remembers those that have passed on, very personable and caring! We trust the staff and feel our pets are safe. We love it here! Feels like family.

Dr. Cleland and his staff are like family. They know our names and pet's names, and even remember individual traits and anecdotes about each and every pet. We recently bought in our playful Snow White for her annual physical and then our beloved ball of fluff, Ali-Kat to be euthanized after two surgeries could not save her from cancer that was robbing her of strength, muscle mass and quality of life. I usually drop off my cats for services. Did not do so on recent visit with older cat (Babe = 16 or older). it was important to connect with Dr. Cleland b/c he sees and understands older cats. Babe was gentle during the appointment. Good to hear that Babe is in good shape given his age. Also, learned that claws get long and thick and painful in older cat. I didn't know this and will try to clip or schedule ongoing appointments to do this

We have been going to Highland Park Animal Hospital for over 40 years! We stay because we are happy there. The staff are kind and attentive, the office is clean and cozy, and Dr. Cleland actually remembers us and our pets, so it feels like a very personalized visit. And when our past pets have passed, Dr. C and staff have all been very supportive and treated us and our pets with dignity and respect. Feels like family there.

I have been a client at this facility since before Dr. Cleland came there. I have always had a wonderful experience with the Dr. and the staff, even in the toughest times, when we experienced the loss of one of our cats. The care provided has been so wonderful that two of my kitties lived to the ripe old age of 21 and 18. My current girls are typically very nervous around strangers, but not with Dr. Cleland. He has a way of just calming them down, it's wonderful.

My Jack Russell Terrier, Harley, has been cared for by Highland Park for the last 8 years. I am pleased with the professional manner that he is cared for. He has been kenneled on numerous occasions over the years; has had medical and surgical procedures and all with great care. My Harley is now 16 years old and a senior. With Dr. Clelan and God's help, I hope that he will have a few more good years. I recommend this hospital to anyone looking for a loving, caring place for your pet.

Thank you for your interest in our Upper Darby practice. The entire staff is dedicated not only to restoring your pet's health, but focuses on preventative care and customer's education. Our office has a small, friendly atmosphere that puts our patients at ease. You will not find a crowded waiting room or have trouble scheduling timely appointments at this Upper Darby practice. Our practice has numerous specialties to satisfy every client needs.

Highland Park Animal Hospital was originally established in 1946 by Dr. Robert Carlton under the name of Carlton Dog & Cat Hospital. Dr. Cleland took over the practice in January of 1986 and since then changed the name to Highland Park Animal Hospital to approximate its location.

Dr. Cleland received a Bachelor of Science degree from Bucknell University, a Master of Veterinary Science at The Pennsylvania State University, and a Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from The University of Pennsylvania. In between his undergraduate and graduate studies, Dr. Cleland served on active duty with the US Navy, advancing to Patrol Plane Commander of the P-3 Orion Antisubmarine Warfare aircraft.

We believe in personalized service, which is not typical in multi-doctor practices, where you cannot be sure which veterinarian you will see on each visit. We are a companion animal veterinary hospital, with main emphasis on dogs & cats, and occasionally small mammals, and reptiles.

Our kennel attendants manage the boarding area 7 days a week. During the summer months work-study students from Upper Darby High School volunteer their services. We believe in the betterment of the neighborhood and encourage the youth to learn a hard work ethic at our practice. Our appointment schedule is varied during the week, allowing access to medical care for just about all hours between 9AM and 7PM weekdays, and appointment hours with the Dr. morning, afternoon, and evening. If situations occur beyond the scope of this practice we may refer to a specialist.
